  • Congressional Report on Human Pesticide Experiments - Reversing a moratorium established by the Clinton Administration, the Environmental Protection Agency under the Bush Administration is reviewing or plans to review over 20 studies that intentionally dosed human subjects with pesticides. The pesticides administered to human subjects in these experiments include “highly hazardous” poisons, suspected carcinogens, and suspected neurotoxicants. The studies, most of which were submitted to EPA by pesticide manufacturers, appear to routinely violate ethical standards.
  • Senator Boxer Denounces Plan - On Jan 23rd, 2006, Senator Barbara Boxer, Rep. Henry A. Waxman and Rep. Hilda L. Solis denounced the Bush Administration plan to promote pesticide expirements on humans.

  • Boxer, Others Attempt to Block Johnson Confirmation - In 2004, Senators Barbara Boxer, Bill Nelson and others blocked the nomination of Stephen Johnson to head EPA when pesticide industry tests involving the the intentional dosing of human beings with pesticides in Johnson’s CHEERs program came to light. Johnson put the CHEERS program on hold while his Senate confirmation hearings were held. Shortly after confirmation, he resumed the program, only to cancel it once and for all due to congressional pressure.
