Introduction
PANNA investigates the role of corporations in the use and promotion of pesticides and genetically engineered crops and works with partner organizations and the public to hold them accountable.
We work to create:
- Greater compliance with existing laws and social norms ("playing by the rules of the game")
- Tougher laws, rules, requirements, etc. ("changing the rules of the game") and
- A fundamental shift in the role and regulation of corporations ("changing the game").
PANNA believes that it is important to work to address immediate pesticide and related harms caused by agribusiness and others, and to limit further impacts through stronger regulatory measures. We also recognize the need to "change the game" through systemic changes that can more broadly protect people and the environment.
Some of our current projects include:
- Campaigns to reduce and prevent our pesticide "body burden" (the pesticides we carry in our bodies) and pesticide drift (contamination through the air)
- The International Dow Accountability Network
- The International Campaign for Justice in Bhopal
- The Agribusiness Accountability Initiative
- Suing the USDA over lax regulatory oversight of biopharm crops (plants genetically engineered to produce industrial and pharmaceutical proteins)
- The International Assessment of Agricultural Science and Technology for Development
- Systemic change strategy dialogues
- Popular mobilizations against institutions advancing corporate and investor rights and for a democratic, environmentally sustainable and socially just world
- Information resources about industrial agriculture and the role of corporations
